On November 8, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Zhou Youbin paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the State of Penang Mr. Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak. Consul Mr. Li Jie was present.

Consul General Mr. Zhou said that since the establishment of the Chinese Consulate General in Penang in 2015, the Consulate General has always maintained effective exchanges and cooperation with the four states in Northern Malaysia including Penang to promote the relationship between related Chinese provinces, cities and the consular district, and to enable the “Belt and Road Initiative” cooperation between the two sides to continuously achieve new progress. The State of Penang, in particular, has enjoyed the benefit of the trade with China and registered a significant increase in its import and export in the first three quarters of this year. In July this year, Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a successful visit to Malaysia and reached a series of important consensuses with the Malaysian side, pushing the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia to scale new heights. In the near future, the direct flight between Hong Kong and Penang will be back. It is believed that with more and more flights reinstated between Chinese localities and the consular district, the two sides will further regain the positive momentum of local exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Consul General Mr. Zhou introduced that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) came to a successful conclusion. The congress elected a new central leadership with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core, and formulated major policies and strategic plans for advancing the cause of the country in the next five years and beyond. The Congress has charted the course and established the guide to action for building China into a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing toward the Second Centenary Goal. On the new journey, China will open its door ever wider, strive to create new opportunities for the world with its own development, and will certainly benefit neighboring countries including Malaysia.

The Governor of the State of Penang Mr. Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak welcomed Consul General Mr. Zhou to assume his office, and is full of confidence and expectation for the Consul General Mr. Zhou to further deepen the friendly and cooperative relations between Malaysia, especially Penang state and China. Mr. Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak said that he has kept paying high attention to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and spoke highly of the great achievements made by the Communist Party of China in leading the country to achieve rapid economic growth and enduring social stability, demonstrating the strength of the political system of China. Malaysia is about to hold the 15th General Election (GE 15). It is expected that after the election, the new Malaysian government would maintain high-level exchanges and deepen practical cooperation in various fields with China. Mr. Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak is also willing to play his role in further enhancing the relationship between the Penang state government and the Chinese Consulate General in Penang.
