On August 25, 2021, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei published a signed article titled “COVID-19 Origin-Tracing: Respect Science, Reject Politicization” in Malaysian media Nanyang Siang Pau, expounding his views on COVID-19 origin-tracing.
The article emphasized that China has been adopting the attitude of openness, transparency, science and cooperation to actively participate in global origin-tracing cooperation, and invited World Health Organization (WHO) experts to China twice for origin-tracing research. Chinese experts also took the initiative to submit to WHO China’s proposal on the second phase of origin-tracing.
The article pointed out that the existing scientific conclusions should be respected regarding origin-tracing. WHO officially released the Joint Report by the WHO-China joint study team, which ought to act as the basis and guideline for global origin-tracing efforts, instead of reinventing the wheel. The path of science should be followed regarding origin-tracing. It is necessary to give scientists enough time to carry out origin-tracing with a scientific attitude and method. Regarding origin-tracing, the political interference should be rid of. The political manipulation by the U.S. on origin-tracing has been widely opposed by the international community. Many countries have been calling on the WHO to conduct the study on COVID-19 origin-tracing objectively and fairly, and firmly opposing the politicization of origin-tracing. The solidarity and cooperation should be enhanced regarding origin-tracing. China always supports and will continue to participate in scientific origins study. China is actively implementing and will continue to carry on the recommendations outlined in the first phase China-WHO joint mission report.
The article stated that China will work with the international community to carry out science-based global origin-tracing, and strive to restore a prosperous, harmonious, and peaceful life to people all around the world.
