On December 5, 2021, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei published a signed article titled “Politicizing the Olympics Violates the Olympic Spirit” in Malaysian media Sin Chew Daily.

The article pointed out that some politicians from few countries including the United States (US) have recently called for a so-called “diplomatic boycott” of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and linked their officials’ attendance with so-called “human rights issues”. In fact, this is to interfere in China’s internal affairs in the name of defending human rights, obvious politicizing sports. This act has seriously violated the Olympic spirit.

The article emphasized that the Olympic Games is an arena for athletes, and the Olympic Movement should not be disturbed by politics. To participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics is the most basic right and the strongest wish of the athletes from the whole world. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and many countries have clearly opposed the politicization of the Olympics, and have expressed their firm support for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Despite the influence of the pandemic, China has been working hard to advance various preparations smoothly, which have been highly recognized by the international community, including the IOC. Under the guidance of the Olympic spirit and with joint efforts of the Olympic family, China will deliver a streamlined, safe, and splendid Olympic Games for the world and promote the healthy development of the international sports cause.
