Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Zhou Youbin Attended the Penang Press Nite 2022

    On October 29, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Zhou Youbin was invited to attend the Penang Press Nite 2022, and delivered a speech. More than 400 people including the Chief Minister of Penang Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, Member of Parliament of Malaysia Mr. Wong Hon Wai, Life Honorary Patron of Penang Press Club Dato’ Seri Khor Teng Tong, President of Penang Press Club Mr. Tan Hu Chuan, Chairman of Journalists’ Union of North Malaya Mr. Lean Yie Yong, etc. attended the event.

    Consul General Mr. Zhou Youbin said in his speech that the Chinese-language media is one of the three pillars of the Chinese community in Malaysia. The main Chinese-language media outlets in the consular district have made important contributions in making the voice of the Chinese community heard, safeguarding the rights and interests of the Chinese ethnic, maintaining the affections among the Chinese ethnic in Malaysia, and inheriting the Chinese culture. In the meantime, they also actively make reports on China’s development and changes, China-Malaysia friendly cooperation, and major events in China, serving as a bridge for overseas Chinese to communicate with their motherland or country of origin. The Penang Press Club and the Journalists’ Union of North Malaya have played an active role in pooling the strength of local journalists together and continuously improving the media capacity of news reporting. It is hoped that local Chinese-language media will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the media in China, make full use of their unique advantages of telling stories circulating between China and other countries in the world, and serve to strengthen the bond of traditional friendship between China and Malaysia.

    Consul General Mr. Zhou Youbin made an introduction of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in his speech, and said that this is a meeting of great importance that took place at a critical time as China embarks on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects and advances toward the Second Centenary Goal. General Secretary Xi Jinping’s report at the congress comprehensively summarized China’s major achievements and valuable experience in the past 10 years, and made plans and arrangements for China’s future development, which will have profound effect on the peace, development, and prosperity of China and the world. We will build China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, create more opportunities for the world through our own development, and better benefit the people of all countries, including Malaysia.

    In his speech, Chief Minister Mr. Chow Kon Yeow fully affirmed the work of the media, calling the media the “best partner”, and highly complement the media workers who have always insisted on reporting from the front line during the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. 

    This year’s Penang Press Nite was jointly organized by the Penang Press Club and the Journalists’ Union of North Malaya to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the establishment of the Penang Press Club and the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Journalists’ Union of North Malaya.
